Getting The Base Right

We are often asked for advice on getting the base right for your garden room.  Follow these simple guidelines whether you are creating a base for a summer house, gazebo or even a shed.  This guide will help you to prolong the life of your structure.  Your structure should be positioned on a flat, solid and stable base to handle the weight and to ensure that the doors and windows of the building hang correctly and open smoothly.

  • Use concrete or patio slabs and ensure the total area is the same dimensions as specified for your structure (if this is bigger, it may cause drainage issues), this section should be sitting slightly above the surrounding slabbing.
  • A shingle surround should be considered to allow water to drain.
  • Slabbing with a gradual slope away from the structure.
  • Sufficient space between the base and garden fence to allow space to maintain the structure.
  • We provide a base plan, including technical specification for each and every structure we provide.  Please ask for details.
