Case Study: From a Future Event to a Perfect Garden Room

The Challenge

When a recent customer first contacted us, their thoughts were already on a significant family event planned for the following summer.  While they had a clear vision of how a new garden building would serve as the centrepiece of their celebration, their primary concern was a familiar one: timing.  They were unsure of how early they needed to begin the process to ensure their dream summerhouse would be ready and installed well in advance of the event.

This conversation, which is common among our clients, brought a series of key question to light:

  • "How long does the entire process take, from placing an order to final installation?"
  • "Do I need to worry about planning permission?"
  • "Can you help me choose the right size and style for my garden?"
  • "What kind of groundwork or base will be required?"
  • "Will the project be completed in time for our event?"

The HSP Approach: A Guided, Step-by-Step Solution

At HSP, we understand that a garden room is a significant investment.  Our role is to act as a partner, guiding our clients through every stage with expertise and clear communication.  For this project, our process unfolded as follows:

1.  Initial Consultation

We began by listening.  The customer shared their vision for the space - how they planned to use the building for their celebration and its intended purpose afterwards.  This initial discussion allowed us to understand the functional and aesthetic requirements, helping us narrow down the ideal size, style, and features that would best suit their family and their garden.

2.  Site Assessment

We then conducted a thorough site assessment.  This is a critical step that ensures the building is placed correctly and functions as intended.  We advise the customer on everything from ground conditions and access for our team to understanding the sun's exposure throughout the day, which would influence the building's internal climate and usage.

3.  Design & Specification

Drawing on our experience, we offered tailored advice on materials, finishes, and optional extras.  For this particular project, we helped the customer select the perfect traditional wood finish, alongside practical additions like insulation and bi-fold doors, which would seamlessly connect the interior to the outdoor space during their event.

4.  Planning & Permissions

The question of planning permission is often a source of stress for customers.  In this instance, we confirmed that due to the building's specifications and location, it would fall within permitted development rights.  However, we also highlighted that for more complex projects, we can either handle the application in-house or provide all the necessary drawings and documentation to support the client through the process.

5.  Scheduling & Delivery

With the design finalised, we worked backwards from the customer's event date.  This proactive approach allowed us to reserve a production slot well in advance and plan for all logistics, including any necessary site preparation and delivery.  By factoring in lead times and potential weather delays, we provided the customer with a realistic and reassuring timeline, ensuring the project would be finished with plenty of time to spare.

The Outcome

By starting the conversation early, our customer gained peace of mind.  We not only addressed all their concerns but also delivered a beautifully crafted garden building that was ready long before their family event.  The proactive planning allowed us to navigate every step efficiently, resulting in a stunning, traditional summerhouse that perfectly complemented their garden and became the heart of their summer celebration.

This project is a perfect example of why early planning matters.  It transforms a list of tasks into a stress-free journey, setting the foundation for a spectacular outdoor space and a summer filled with memories.
